How to Take Random Samples to Avoid Human Bias

Method 1: Take a small ball with you and when you get to an area where you want to sample throw the ball and wherever the ball lands sample in that spot.

Method 2: Make a transect and use a random number generator to find how apart each sampling area will be.  Use a controlled distance (usually 50 meters)

Method 3: Use a random number generator to find a direction to walk in using a compass (between 0 and 360 degrees) and use a random number generator to find the distance you will walk.  This method works best in a large area.
